Interbank FX (IBFX) To Move To 5th Decimal Pricing

Interbank FX (IBFX), one of the most used metatrader4 (mt4) platforms for expert advisors (forex robots) is to change to 5th decimal pricing.

In a move announced by email to it’s members over the weekend of April 11th, IBFX announced that as from the open of Sunday night trading on April 12th the main demo server would be now running on 5th decimal pricing. The current plan is that the live platform will move to 5th decimal pricing from the open of Sunday night trading on 17th May.

This means anyone running Expert Advisors on IBFX needs to consider what impact this will have on them. Certainly they will need to make any adjustments and test them appropriately either before the 17th of May, and/or stop running their robots at this time and make the adjustments.

Interbank FX is introducing 5th decimal pricing!

As part of our continuing commitment to delivering the optimal customer experience we are introducing 5th decimal pricing on our currency pairs. The 5th decimal prices will be available on our demo servers on Sunday afternoon at 6pm EST on April 12th, 2009 and will be available on the live trading servers on Sunday afternoon at 6pm EST on May 17, 2009.

Why 5th decimal pricing?
Adding the 5th decimal point can reduce the spread, or difference between the buy and sell prices of a currency pair. You may notice tighter spreads as we enable the 5th decimal pricing on our trading platforms.

How will this effect Expert Advisors (EAs)?
Most EAs will be affected by the introduction of the 5th decimal point. Please make sure that you have adjusted all pip value related parameters, such as take profits or stop losses, to allow for the additional decimal point. For instance, if you are currently using a stop loss level of 20 on a four decimal pair, you would have to change the value to 200 to get the same execution on a pair with a 5th decimal. Please be aware that some EAs will need fundamental changes to ensure that they will work as you expect. We would suggest that you use your EAs on our demo accounts before using them on your live account to ensure they are working properly.

How does this effect Stop Losses, Take Profits and Maximum Deviation?
All take profit, stop loss and maximum deviation values that are expressed in points should be multiplied by 10. For example, if you would like to enter a Maximum Deviation of 5 pips, you would enter 50 into the Maximum Deviation field.

How does this effect the profit / loss values expressed in the Trade tab in the Terminal?
All profit & loss values already incorporate the 5th decimal place adjustment when they are expressed as Points in the Profit column under the Trade tab in the Terminal window in MetaTrader.

Does this effect Trailing Stops?
Yes. When you are setting a trailing stop value you will multiply it by 10.

Forex Trading System Software is often advertised with such slogans as ”Plug In, Turn On, Make Lots Of Money While You Sleep, Retire”. But how realistic are these claims of making lots of money in a hurry? Is using Forex Trading System Software as part of your investment strategy a good move, or could you be putting your savings at risk without even realizing it? We investigate.

If you’re reading this then I can pretty much guarantee that you are either already using forex trading system software or that you are thinking about it. You’ve gone through the process of thinking that there must be a way to earn extra money. You’ve spent time googling or yahooing various options and eventually you land on a page telling you about the latest Forex Robot that will make you lots of money with no hassle. If some of the claims are to be believed you’ll be a millionaire within a year. Amazing! And yet, being the smart person that you are, you know that seems almost too good to be true.

Sadly, the fact is that sometimes it is far from the truth because many people get burned by forex trading system software. They buy a forex robot that has an inherently risky or outdated market strategy and find that they make substantial losses. Meanwhile other people start in forex trading and make substantial profits. So what is the difference?

One of the main areas of difference is the amount of losses each piece of software is setup to allow. As you know, forex trading involves a mixture of winning and losing trades - when you make more wins than losses you will profit, and when it’s the other way around you will lose. The drawdown percentage is the percentage of money lost in losing trades before the robot wins again and is measured retrospectively. As you can imagine, a lot of people don’t have the stomach for these kinds of losses and this is where they often get burned and end up exiting forex trading. The other main area of difference is the strategy used. Some forex robots do possess money making intelligence – they are watching the market and constantly recalculating what they need to do to make money. They only make trades when they have a high degree of confidence that they can make a profit.

Worse still, some robots are simply designed to trade as often as possible, the philosophy being if it makes a lot of trades it should get some wins. Automated Forex Trading is mentioned a lot on the internet as a way to make money. This refers to the beauty of controlling huge sums of money with small cash outlays. Trading margin is usually available at either 50, 100, 150 or 200. So $1,000 in a 100:1 Forex account will give you the power of $100,000 in the currency market.

It must be said of course that while this gives you the opportunity to make a lot more profit, it does expose you to more risk. So be cautious out there!

4. Freedom

The internet has changed things. Imagining being able to call yourself a “Professional Forex Trader” and having the ability to work from anywhere in the world that had a good internet connection. If you figure out how to make money in the market properly then this really could be you.

5. Liquidity – No Getting Stuck With Shares You Can’t Sell

With a turnover value of approx $2 trillion per day, Forex is the largest market in the world and also the most liquid. You can exit or enter the market at any time – there is no problem about suddenly getting stuck with worthless shares that nobody wants to buy.

So be very aware and to keep abreast for forex news from sources such as Google News or the myriad of rss information feeds available. One thing is for certain – until the market quiets itself down a bit there will be many more event days.

If you have spare money that you can use to start off in the market then do it. However if you are putting money that you need at risk then don’t – you shouldn’t ever do this, but especially not in the current economic climate.

I was browsing the web today and came across a post on one of the Forex blogs. The post at fxrobots states about how someone who has been trialling Forex Funnel on the demo account has had poor results while trialling Forex Funnel (the Automatic Forex Trading software that we’ve reviewed here).

At first this seems worrying to anyone researching into Forex Funnel. However, one becomes less worried when reading a comment on the blog post that says the following :

I think the main problem you had was not sticking to the directions. I only say this because I’ve been testing FF for a month on a $10,000 demo account. So far it’s made $4,200 profit….

… Also that day you made your worst losses was the same day mine made a few if I recall correctly. I think that was actually an “event day”, as in something major was reported that day. FF actually recommends to not trade using FF on those days. Also your trading lot size was too big. Why don’t you give it a shot on your demo account and actually stick to their guidelines?

In other words, the blogger has said that Forex Funnel would be losing him money if he was doing it for real, but at the same time he’s not following the exact instructions – granted he has his reasons for doing this, but this brings me to a point for anyone considering buying Forex Funnel.

So what’s the moral of the story here? Quite simply, when you are doing automatic forex trading with autopilot trading software, you simply MUST stick with the directions that the publishers give you.

Why is this you ask?

Well, each program is setup to trade on the market in a very specific way. Automatic trading is based on specific trends and designed to trade in very specific manner. So for example, setting your trading size differently to what is recommended could see you damage your successful trading.

If you’re reading this you’ve already heard of Forex Currency Trading. But how does it work? And can you make money out of it?Firstly, Forex Currency Trading is NOT about going to the bank every couple of days and changing money for another currency. Although that might be what you do if you were going to go on holiday to another country, the art of Forex Currency Trading is nowadays all done electronically.

The most common home setup involves the use of Forex Trading Software, often known as Expert Advisor software. This software sits on your machine and connects via your internet connection to an MT4 account provider. Basically, an MT4 account is like a bank account, but one that gives you access to trade Forex.

Although the use of MT4 accounts is fairly standard, there can be differences in the software that you setup on your machine. The latest software is known as Autopilot Trading Software – basically this is software that trades the market for you.

How does that work? Well, the software has been “trained” on how a particular currency pair operates (a currency pair is something like the USD / JPY or USD / Euro). The software knows that when the market starts to move up it tends to move up by a certain amount, and vice versa, and so it makes trades based on this. All you are really required to do is setup the parameters of how much you are willing to trade and away you go.

It may sound a little risky trusting in a machine, but most good software gives you the opportunity to operate in a test environment where you use “invisible cash” to practice the trading. Ok, so, the most important question – can you make money out of it. The answer is yes. The amount you make will depend on how much you put in, but these systems are fine tuned to trade at an overall profit, so even if you start small, it won’t take long until you build up your reserves and are able to make bigger trades.
